Visiting the Pumpkin Patch

Michael picks pumpkins, while Hannah takes a break.

Students and staff took a field trip today to a pumpkin patch being held at St. John's Methodist Church on Alameda. Everyone enjoyed their break from school and picking out pumpkins. When the kids returned to school, they got to enjoy some Halloween treats!

Teachers at Sundberg Conference

This week, two of our teachers, Robin Blue and Amit Nadkarni, are attending the Sundberg conference. Hannah's Hope is still in session with a modified schedule. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful substitute teacher, Erin Hardin. Erin recently relocated to Corpus Christi from Houston. She is a certified special education teacher who has a son with autism. Next week, Erin will begin working for Seashore Learning Center on Padre Island.

Hannah's Hope would like to thank Erin for all of the fun and great energy she has brought to us this week. The kids just loved her. We also want to wish you luck in all of your future endeavors. You are a great asset to our community.

Sensory/Quiet Time

Hannah and Brandon "relax".

After lunch each day, our students get to have a little "down time". During "quiet time" children listen to music and are provided with whatever sensory input they are needing. There are lots of soft, comfy pillows and beanbags available. A favorite activity for these kids is looking at themselves in the big mirror we have mounted on the wall.

This is only a 25 minute period, so the children are not required to go to sleep. It's a good break that helps prepare them for the busy afternoon.

Dr. Sundberg Comes to Corpus!

ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) will be hosting a workshop, "Teaching Language Skills to Children with Autism" presented by Dr. Mark Sundberg. Dr. Sundberg is a behavior analyst from California who co-authored the curriculum (ABLLS) we use at Hannah's Hope.

The workshop will be held October 17-19 at the Educational Service Center (209 Water Street) from 8:00-4:30. Please contact Sylvia Mena-Ramirez at 361-980-9652 or go to www.ncmhmr.org for registration and more information.

This is an excellent opportunity for any individual working with children with autism.
